Education and Bible Study
Part of our mission at St John’s is to nourish the faith of our church members, to support those seeking God or questioning their faith, to facilitate debate, and to educate those who wish to be better informed about Christianity. The apostle Paul, in writing to encourage Timothy his friend and disciple in ministry, said:
‘You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.’
(2 Timothy 2:2)
To this end, we offer you a number of programs, including:
- Weekly Bible Study classes, including those targeting Young Adults, Women and Cantonese speakers
- The New Shofar, a weekly written reflection on being a follower of Christ in the modern world
- The Lectio Divina, written by our Parish Missioner, Bp Michael Hough, is a program for people who are short of time but still want God to help steer them through the activities of daily living. It is divided into four levels depending on your level of discipleship.
While not a Bible Study, St John’s offers ESL classes and conversation to those who are native speakers of Mandarin or Cantonese. Led by Bowen Lau, these classes are taught remotely over Zoom on Thursday afternoons. Please contact the church office if you, or someone you know, would benefit from this.
